Aircraft Brightwork Metal Polishing
Bare metal leading edges, exhaust surrounds, and trim lose their luster to oxidation, exhaust deposits, and high-altitude exposure. Our multi-stage polishing process restores mirror-grade reflectivity using aviation-approved compounds and DA orbital technology.
Brightwork polishing is one of the highest-impact visual improvements you can make to an aircraft. Whether preparing for resale, an owner arrival, or simply maintaining the standard your aircraft deserves, polished metal communicates meticulous care at a glance.
Benefits of Professional Aircraft Brightwork Polishing
Brightwork polishing is one of the highest-impact services in aviation detailing. Polished bare metal transforms an aircraft's appearance and directly influences appraisal value and buyer perception.
Corrosion Prevention
Oxidation left untreated leads to pitting and structural degradation. Regular polishing removes oxidation before it penetrates the metal surface, extending the service life of bare aluminum and alloy components.
Restored Mirror-Grade Brilliance
Our multi-stage aircraft detailing process uses progressive-grit aviation compounds to restore factory-level reflectivity on leading edges, exhaust surrounds, and metal trim.
Increased Resale & Appraisal Value
Brokers and buyers notice brightwork first. Polished metal signals meticulous ownership. Professional private jet detailing with brightwork service consistently supports higher aircraft valuations.
Professional Ramp Presence
For corporate flight departments and charter operators, polished brightwork communicates operational excellence. It's the visual equivalent of a perfectly pressed uniform — noticed by everyone on the ramp.
Extended Service Intervals
Sealant application after polishing slows re-oxidation significantly. This extends the interval between polishing sessions, reducing long-term maintenance costs while keeping your aircraft looking its best.
EPA-Compliant Process
All compound residue is removed using our eco-friendly rinseless wash system — zero water runoff, zero chemical discharge. Any water used passes through our proprietary 11-stage filtration and purification system. Our aviation detailing process is fully compliant at every Chicago-area airport.
Our Polishing Process
A methodical, multi-stage approach to restoring bare metal surfaces to their original brilliance.
Surface Assessment
We identify every bare metal surface on your aircraft — leading edges, exhaust surrounds, metal trim, wing root fairings, and engine inlet lips. Oxidation level, pitting depth, and previous treatment history are documented.
Masking & Protection
All painted surfaces adjacent to brightwork are carefully masked with aviation-grade tape. Composite panels, de-ice boots, and sensor ports are protected to prevent compound contact or abrasion damage.
Multi-Stage Polish
Using DA orbital polishers with aviation-specific metal compounds, we work through progressive grit stages — cutting compound for heavy oxidation, then finishing compound for mirror-grade reflectivity. Each pass is inspected under work lighting.
Residue Removal & Final Wash
Metal polishing generates significant compound residue. Every trace is removed with our EPA-compliant rinseless wash system — no water runoff, no chemical discharge. Your aircraft leaves cleaner than it arrived.
Sealant Application
A protective sealant (Jescar Power Lock or equivalent) is applied to polished surfaces to slow re-oxidation and extend the mirror finish between service intervals.
Surfaces We Polish
Brightwork polishing applies to any bare, unpainted metal surface on the aircraft. Common areas include:
- Wing leading edges (bare aluminum or polished metal)
- Engine inlet lips and exhaust surrounds
- Horizontal & vertical stabilizer leading edges
- Metal wing root fairings
- Bare metal trim strips and accent panels
- Landing light bezels and navigation light housings
- Propeller spinners (turboprop aircraft)
- Entry door frames and handrail hardware
Safety Protocols
Brightwork polishing is high-labor, high-detail work. Our safety protocols protect your aircraft and our crew:
- We NEVER polish coated or painted surfaces — brightwork only
- All adjacent paint, composite, and rubber surfaces are masked before work begins
- No acid-based cleaners are used — aviation-approved compounds only
- Post-polish residue is fully removed with eco-friendly rinseless wash
- FOD sweep and tool accountability after every service
Brightwork polishing typically requires 2–6 hours depending on the number of surfaces, severity of oxidation, and aircraft size. Light jets with minimal brightwork may take 2–3 hours; heavy jets with extensive bare metal can require a full day.
Hangar-Safe & EPA-Compliant
Many Chicago-area FBOs — particularly at DPA, PWK, and ORD — restrict wet washing operations inside hangars due to EPA stormwater runoff regulations. Our brightwork polishing process is fully hangar-compatible: we use rinseless, waterless cleaning methods that produce zero chemical runoff and require no floor drains or water recovery systems.
All polishing compound residue is captured with microfiber towels and removed from the premises. The final post-polish wash uses our eco-friendly dry wash system — an aviation-approved rinseless formula that lifts contaminants without water, leaving no discharge for EPA concern.
This means your aircraft can receive a full brightwork restoration right in the hangar, on the ramp, or wherever it's parked — with zero environmental disruption to your FBO's operations.
Aircraft Types We Polish Brightwork
Bare metal surfaces, exhaust stacks, leading edges, and trim vary by aircraft type. Our Chicago brightwork polishing teams know which alloys respond to which compounds — from Inconel exhaust stacks on a Citation to titanium leading edges on a Global.
